A Tragedy and Transformed by Love
Revised March, 2025
Alicia Davidson, a South Carolina native of Hilton Head Island, creator and owner of Placerville Dog House, endured a heartbreaking tragedy that forever changed her life. After years of enduring trauma and abuse at the hands of the father of her young daughter, Alicia made the courageous decision to step 3,000 miles away from a painful past instead of numbing her pain with harmful choices. In a moment of profound clarity, she surrendered to a higher power and discovered that the healing force in her life was love—specifically, her unconditional love for animals. This revelation inspired her to transform deep personal pain into a vision, giving birth to the award-winning business, Placerville Dog House.
An Unimaginable Ordeal and a Promising Reunion
One morning in December of 2017, Alicia found herself childless and her 2 year old daughter abducted. Her beloved dog was gone. Starting from nothing, without a home, vehicle, without knowing a soul in this foreign town, Alicia began following her brave decision to leave behind an environment of abuse, battling the family court system for over 5 years. She knew she had to be something or someone in this town to provide for her daughter, not knowing if she would or wouldn't ever see her daughter again. But she went for it. And Alicia succeeded.
On October 31, 2024, in Hilo, Hawaii, Child Protective Services located her daughter, Stella. In shocking circumstances that day, the father—who had previously assured 9 year old, Stella, explained he would never abandon her. The following day, he drove her to school inappropriately, leaving a letter for school staff and, against all expectations, renouncing his role as a parent. As a result, Stella was placed in foster care shortly thereafter.
Now, in an incredible turn of events, Stella will be reunited with her loving mother after eight long years apart, with their reunion scheduled for spring break—just a few days from today.
This long-awaited moment marks not only the return of a cherished family member but also the rebirth of hope and healing for Alicia and the entire Placerville Dog House community.Placerville Dog House is reaching out to pet owners, friends, and neighbors to rally around Stella June—our new mini owner—and the entire family as they embrace this miraculous new chapter.
Alicia’s heartfelt advice to anyone facing hardship is a reminder that pain, whether emotional or physical, is temporary. “What you’re going through will pass. Love is forever. You have what it takes to overcome your battle and emerge stronger,” she says.
